Sonic Daze: Play it LOUD

Trashy Tuesday: Sonic Daze

Welcome to another edition of Trashy Tuesday – our weekly celebration of all things raw and wild. This week continues our run of European bands on Trashy Tuesday. What can I tell you? There are some great European bands that do the trashy sound just right.

Every once in a while, I come across an album that grabs my attention immediately. That was definitely the case with First Coming by Sonic Daze. I was hooked as soon as I heard the fuzzy guitar riffs at the beginning of “Hear Me Calling.” It’s the kind of song that gets your head moving and your toes tapping immediately. And if you’re a fan of drums that are attacked as much as played, you will love this song.

The amazing thing is that the opening track is followed by a song – “When the Sun” – that has an even more furious energy with a bass line that you’ll probably feel from your stomach down to your feet. The band dips into a little psychedelia with the song “So Many Colours.” I’ve never seen this band perform live, but I have to guess this is the song for when the members need to take a little breath during a live set.

Like any good Trashy Tuesday band, Sonic Daze believes in fuzz and lots of volume. Of course you can listen to it with earphones, but that kind of defeats the purpose. This is an EP that begs to be cranked so you can share the rock with everyone around you. I’ll tell you one thing, if you need to wake some people up, this would be a good way to do it. First Coming is available now on Bandcamp.
